Opportunity at Doris Duke Conservation Scholars Program at University of Michigan
The Doris Duke Conservation Scholars Program at the University of Michigan (DDCSPUM) is looking for the future pioneers in the changing field of conservation. We want to support students who have leadership and academic potential and who are also committed to diversifying the field of conservation.Doris Duke Scholars are eager to be immersed in an experiential learning program that incorporates diversity and inclusion into their understanding of conservation practices.
The Program will offer:
• $4,000 stipend, plus a $250 supplement• Room and board• Round-trip air/bus/train fare or mileage• 8-week fellowship opportunity (for two consecutive years) that focus on conservation research and practice at theSchool of Natural Resources and the Environment (SNRE) -- one of the country’s top programs of its kind• Access to world-class libraries and other campus facilities• Work directly with and develop mentor relationships with diverse SNRE faculty and researchers.• Explore Michigan’s ecosystems and geography, including an orientation week at the UM Biological Station in Pellston• Spend two summers in Ann Arbor with an active local conservation community.
Applicant Requirements
• Be 18 years old before the start of the program• Be U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or Deferred Action forChildhood Arrivals (DACA/DREAMers)• Have a minimum of 2.75 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale)• Have completed at least one full year of college or universitycourses by the start of the program.We are prioritizing rising sophomores or juniors. Students should have a basic understanding of ecology, biology, environmental, chemistry, or geography principles.Members of underrepresented sociocultural or geographic groups, including: first generation college students, veterans, African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian American, Hispanic/Latino, Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander, or economically disadvantaged individuals are strongly encouraged to apply.
