Nadia Elrokhsy, Interim Director of the BFA Architectural Design and BS Urban Design programs at Parsons, is an active volunteer member with a number of energy and environmental design initiatives in New York City.As part of her ongoing commitment to the fields of the built environment, sustainability and design for resilience, she is currently serving on the US Green Building Council’s New York Chapter’s Urban Green Monthly Programming Committee and is assisting her residential complex in pursuing a NYC DEP Green Infrastructure Grant, and participated in the American Institute of Architects 80 x 2050 Taskforce. Phase one of the AIA task force is to develop training sessions and tools that support New York City’s architects with the rapidly changing landscape of energy codes and the learning curve required for high performance projects and deep energy retrofits..The Urban Green Monthly Planning Committee is a volunteer committee of built environment industry professionals that assist Urban Green in advancing the knowledge and participation of designers through planned educational events. She co-organized three successful public events over the last year and a half, including, "EnerPHit: The Passive House Standard for Energy Retrofits” and “Unpacking Product Ingredients: What’s In A Label?” Events such as, “SU+RE House: A Model of Resiliency,” were co-hosted with The New School. Nadia co-organizes these events with a special focus on how these events connect the work that is happening in New York City with the students and The New School and the greater outside community. The next co-organized Urban Green event is Integrative Design: Redefining the Practice of Sustainability on September 29 and will look at natural systems as a model for whole systems thinking and how this system allows us to move beyond incremental improvements to true restorative and regenerative design.Register for the event here.
