Director Michelle DePass Honored at NYC-EJA's 25th Anniversary Gala
The New York City Environmental Justice Alliance (NYC-EJA) celebrated its 25th anniversary on Thursday, April 6, 2017. At the celebratory Gala, NYC-EJA honored the contributions of former board members and staff who have gone on to work at different levels of government, academia, foundations, non-profit organizations, and media. The first of the “Magnificent Seven” honorees was Michelle DePass, current Director of the Tishman Environment and Design Center and Dean of the Milano School of International Affairs, Management, and Urban Policy.DePass was the founding Executive Director of NYC-EJA where she advocated for low-income communities and communities of color facing environmental injustices related to environmental enforcement, compliance, siting, permits and land use and policy development in the areas of solid waste, water quality, air quality, Brownfields and alternative fuels.
Also named one of the Magnificent Seven was Mathy Stanislaus, a long-time board member of NYC-EJA, and current Visiting Scholar with the Tishman Center. Mathy’s award was presented by Kartik Amarnath, a former Research Assistant with the Tishman Center and current Energy Planner at NYC-EJA.
