Director of Advising Jill Corson Launches Environmental Education Website

Screen Shot 2016-04-06 at 9.29.47 PMJill Corson, a Director of Advising for graduate Architecture, Interior Design, and Lighting Design students at Parsons, launched an environmental education website for the Garrison School, a public K-8 school in Garrison, NY, which has its own school forest."The Garrison School has a rich tradition of infusing environmental experiences into its curriculum, and this website represents our commitment to continually explore cutting edge ways to impact our students' learning," said Principal John Griffiths.The website is rich in resources, and provides information for students, teachers, parents, and anyone who wants to learn about animals, climate change, geology, the Hudson River, invasive species, local conservation history, plants, water, weather, and many, many other topics.The Environmental Education website contains lesson plans and information on: how to teach outdoorsnature's benefits for childrenanimalscitizen scienceclimate changegeography & mappinggeologyHudson Highlands folklore, the Hudson Riverinvasive specieslocal conservation historylocal Native American historylocal Revolutionary War historymigrationtrees & forests, and many other topics.The site incorporates original source documents from the Library of Congress and the New York State Archives, along with audio recordings and videos. It links students, teachers, and the greater community to information from the Cary Institute for Ecosystem Studies, the Children & Nature Network, Cornell Ornithology Lab, the EPA, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, NASA, NOAA, the U.S. Geological Survey, and many other organizations.
