ARE YOU FEELING THE HEAT?
Join us for a discussion of extreme heat and COVID-19.
Summer is here, and even though the city has started to reopen, not everyone feels safe outside. But the heat is here as well, and that is making it increasingly difficult – even dangerous – for many of us to stay indoors.
COVID-19 has ravaged our community. Extreme heat, the deadliest form of weather, also disproportionately kills people of color. And thanks to the climate crisis, extreme heat events are increasing in frequency, intensity, and duration.
We will examine the health and financial impacts of extreme heat, including the role of energy insecurity. We will offer advice on how to stay safe and connect you to resources to help you stay cool. And we will discuss some of the recommendations we are making to City Hall and the State Capitol to address these issues – and would like to get your feedback on them.
We will soon be announcing a number of guest speakers, which will hopefully include representatives from the New York City Mayor’s Office and Department of Health and Mental Hygiene as well as the New York State Nurses Association.
