In honor of National Day of Awareness of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Girls, Women, Trans, and 2 Spirit People, BIPOC Earth will be holding a virtual teach-in presented by Camp Migizi and Indigenous Earth Protectors.
WHAT IS MMIGWT2SP?
Missing and Murdered Indigenous Girls, Women, Trans, and 2 Spirit People is an ongoing movement that was created in response to the high and disproportionate attacks on Native people. The movement advocates for the awareness of the disappearances and murders against members in Native communities across Turtle Island that are often overlooked in the media. The movement also calls for the end of violence against all Native people, especially women, girls, trans, and 2 spirit people.
Here are some facts about how Native people are disproportionately affected:
• About 4 out of 5 Native women have experienced violence
• Native women were about twice as likely than white women to experience violence
• Native women face murder rates 10 times the national average
• The murder rate for Native women is about 3 times more than that of white women
(more information can be found on wernative.org)
WHO IS CAMP MIGIZI?
Camp Migizi has been leading the resistance work against Line 3 pipeline which is threatening the protection of their communities and natural resources. Although their current work entails stopping this pipeline, their long-term vision is to create a continued solidarity between all people of all races.
WHAT IS THE TEACH-IN?
During this teach-in, Camp Migizi will speak more in-depth of the MMIGWT2SP crisis. They will draw connections between MMIGWT2SP cases and pipelines and other extractive sites. They also speak a bit of the incredible work that they are doing and actions that are needed to be taken. Towards the end, Camp Migizi & Indigenous Earth Protectors will lead us in ceremony in honor of the stolen sisters & siblings.
Join us in solidarity, on Friday, May 6th from 4-6pm. The zoom link will be attached below.
